Gartner names world’s leading supply chains as AI and resilience reshape operations

Schneider Electric has retained the top spot in Gartner’s Global Supply Chain Top 25 rankings for the fourth consecutive year, with new research highlighting how artificial intelligence, resilient supply networks and end-to-end orchestration are redefining supply chain leadership.

NVIDIA secured second place in the 2026 rankings, while Walmart climbed 10 places to third, reflecting significant investment in digital transformation and operational innovation.

According to Gartner, the world’s highest-performing supply chains are no longer using AI simply to automate individual tasks. Instead, they are redesigning how work is carried out by combining human expertise with increasingly autonomous technologies across planning, sourcing, manufacturing and logistics.

Laura Rainier, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner, said leading organisations are “building autonomous workforces, investing in network-centric strategies and orchestrating supply chains end-to-end across increasingly complex ecosystems.”

The research identifies three major trends shaping the next generation of supply chain operations.

The first is the emergence of the autonomous workforce, with organisations deploying generative and agentic AI to support decision-making while enabling employees to focus on strategic planning, supplier relationships and continuous improvement. Leading businesses are investing heavily in workforce development to ensure staff can effectively manage and collaborate with intelligent systems.

Secondly, Gartner highlights the growing importance of network-centric strategies. Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, tariff volatility and climate disruption, supply chain leaders are moving away from static network design towards more agile regional manufacturing and sourcing models that improve resilience while supporting long-term growth.

The third trend is end-to-end supply orchestration. Rather than managing supply chains within organisational boundaries, leading companies are improving visibility across suppliers, logistics providers and customers through collaborative planning, real-time data sharing and ecosystem-wide decision-making. Sustainability and circular economy principles are also becoming increasingly integrated into product design and material flows.

Schneider Electric’s continued leadership reflects its multi-year transformation programme, which combines AI-enabled resource orchestration with workforce transformation and circular economy initiatives to improve operational performance.

Alongside the Top 25 rankings, Gartner maintained its prestigious Masters category for organisations demonstrating sustained supply chain excellence over many years, with Amazon, Apple, Procter & Gamble and Unilever retaining their positions.

The report reinforces that future competitiveness will depend on combining AI-enabled decision-making with resilient supply networks, stronger collaboration across trading partners and continuous investment in both technology and workforce capabilities.
